Memorandum of Understanding with CAST Straightarrow

The School of Deaf Education and Applied Studies (SDEAS) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with CAST Straightarrow. The partnership aims enrich the learning of Deaf Benildean students in the creative and marketing disciplines with the view of finding suitable internship for the Deaf students and employment when they graduate.

The School of Deaf Education and Applied Studies participated in the Rotary Club Annual District Sportsfest - "Fostering Camaraderie and Unity Through Great Sports" last February 4, 2018 at the University of Makati. The SDEAS Representatives were Overall Champions.

DOT-CSB Deaf Community Tour Guiding Workshop

SDEAS Graduates participated in a 7-day workshop on Deaf Community Tour Guiding conducted by the Department of Tourism Office of Industry and Manpower Development. The training was conducted last March 12-20, at the Saint Brother Jaime Hilario Institute Training Room, School of Design and Arts Building. The training produced 13 Deaf tour guides, who are now being commissioned to work for the National Museum and for various tour operators and travel agencies.

DOE-IAYP Adventurous Journey

School of Deaf Education and Applied Studies (SDEAS) Students participated in The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award for Young People Program- Adventurous Journey, a Deaf Awareness and Filipino Sign Language Workshop. This was held last April 22-26, 2018 at the Vocational Rehabilitation Center (AVRC I - DSWD), Bonuan, Binloc, Dagupan City.

Ding, Ang Bato! Musical

"The SDA Arts and Culture Cluster in collaboration with the School of Deaf Education and Applied Studies staged “Ding Ang Bato” Benilde’s Dance musical based on Mars Ravelo’s DARNA from May 15-21, 2018 at the SDA Theater.
This is the first Dance Musical in Benilde featuring Deaf Actors and Filipino Sign Language integrated in all dialogues , lyrics and choreography."

PWD Entre-ployment Exposition

The School of Deaf Education and Applied Studies (SDEAS) in collaboration with the saint Brother Jaime Hilario Training Institute (SBJHI), De La Salle University (DLSU) and the Embassy of the United States, organized the PWD Entre-ployment Exposition last June 28-29, 2018 at the Henry Sy, Sr. Hall Grounds, DLSU.
This event aims to promote employability and generate business opportunities for persons with disabilities through booth-exhibits featuring government services, training institutions, employers, and disability organizations; seminars and workshops on employment, business skills and PWD-employers fora; photo exhibit; plenary; and consultation sessions.

10th Deaf and Hearing Camp

The School of Deaf Education and Applied Studies (SDEAS) in collaboration with the Stairway Foundation Inc. conducted the 10th Deaf and Hearing Camp last August 8-13, 2018 in Aninuan, Oriental Mindoro. Deaf and Hearing Camp is an annual project that aims to conduct specific trainings and seminars (personal safety, Deaf awareness, personal - scale income generating projects) and various interactive activities that will benefit the target population.

The ZULFIQAR (Jekardo Chris Araos, Kendrick Louis Arcangel, Marcianne Jay Santillan) team mentored by Ar. Jose Manuel Garcia bagged 2nd place in the Design competition during The Philippine Iconic Tower Design Competition hosted by UAP Singapore last September 2017. Benilde Architecture program organized the Anthology Architecture and Design Festival 2018, a three-day celebration of architecture and design held last February 9 - February 11, 2018 at Fort Santiago, in the historic walled city of Intramuros, Manila, Philippines. This year's festival theme is "Social Architecture".

ASEANnale Film and Multimedia Competition

Amy, written and directed by De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde Digital Filmmaking student John Craig “Jaig” de Guzman, tied for the Best Narrative Film award with Mission Accomplished by Eidref Kristin Faith Magpayo of Centro Escolar University- Malolos at the first ASEANnale Film and Multimedia Competition awarding ceremonies held last March 2.
De Guzman’s entry also won Best Short Film and Best Editing at the Largabista Film Festival awards night held last March 3 onboard the Greenpeace ship Rainbow Warrior, which is docked at the Tacloban city port as part of its climate justice ship tour in Southeast Asia.

The Multimedia Arts Program produced Traverse: MMA Exhibit 2018 last July 25-31, 2018. This event is an exhibition of the best MMA works of students in partnership with Power Mac Center and Panasonic.
Part of this week-long event is a conversation with MMA Alumni to discuss the current challenges and trends in the industry. The activity is called MMA Converse and was held last July 25 at he SDA Cinema.
The MMA Program also recognized the MMA exhibit participants through the MMA Awards last July 25 in the SDA Cinema.

Industrial Design Graduates produced EDGE: An Industrial Design Thesis Exhibit last August 2-3, 2018 at the Design Center of the Philippines, Pasay City. The event also presented 13 Best Thesis nominees, panelled by Senior Industry Fellow Kenneth Cobonpue, BS-ID Chairperson Mary Florence Lei Nobleza, DTI Executive Director Rhea Matute, and faculty Leo Oaper. Joaquin Talan and Kirsten Ariana Herce were recognized as runner-ups, and Paulo Tyler Buenaventura was awarded the Best Thesis Award.

Partnership with Odyssely International Exchange

School of Hotel, Restaurant and Institution Management (SHRIM) forged a new international exchange partnership with Odyssey International Exchange (a program sponsor for J1 programs in the US). This partnership aims to promote reciprocal exchange programs with other countries, meaning American citizens will have the chance to experience a cultural exchange in other countries such as the Philippines.
The Memorandum of Agreement was signed last September 12, 2017 at the Omni Interlocken Resort in Denver, Colorado.

Partnership Renewal with Rochester Institute of Technology–National Technical Institute for the Deaf

The DLS-CSB School of Hotel, Restaurant and Institution Management sent a 12- person delegation to Rochester Institute of Technology–National Technical Institute for the Deaf (RIT-NTID) in Rochester, New York last October 14-24, 2017. The primary purpose of the benchmarking trip was to identify, understand and adapt outstanding practices. The benchmarking activity was meant to boost the capabilities of SHRIM to successfully attain the goals of the SHRIM Project ahEAD (Education Access for the Deaf) to be in full effect by the school year 2018-2019.
In the same trip, an International Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Benilde and RIT-NTID strengthening and expanding the collaboration between both institutions on October 16, 2017.

The Memorandum of Understanding between DLS-CSB and the Emirates Academy of Hospitality Management (EAHM) was renewed last December 3, 2017 at the EAHM in Dubai.

Young Chef Olympiad 2018

SHRIM joined the Young Chef’s Olympiad 2018 Competition last January 28 held in the different regions of India.
Culinary Arts student, Mr. Brylle Li competed with 49 students from all over the world. He ranked 5th in the Ambassadorship round and 15th in the Vegetarian round. He was accompanied by Chef Ted Fung Chua as his coach.

DLSAU Senior High School Students' Training

Benilde opened its doors to the Senior High School (SHS) students of De La Salle Araneta Universty (DLSAU). The first batch started last February 19 - March 2, 2018 and the second batch was from March 5-16, 2018. They were allowed to undergo immersion in the various hatcheries of SHRIM from Monday to Friday only from 08:00H - 16:00H.
With 49 students total, 18 of were assigned at the Vatel Restaurant Manila, 25 at Hotel Benilde Maison de La Salle, and 6 at Andrew Cafe.

School Directors of more than 40 Vatel gathered at the 12th Vatel International Convention hosted by Vatel Tunis last May 9-12, 2018. Benilde / Vatel Manila was represented by Mr. Robert L. It was also during the convention that the 10th CIRVATH International Journal of Tourism was distributed. Three (3) researches from SHRIM were published in the said journal.

Bangkok Summer Course Scholarship

Ten (10) IHM students participated in the very first Bangkok Summer Course Scholarship last July 31 to August 11, 2018. The program was fully funded by Vatel Bangkok and Silpakorn University International College. The two-week cultural exchange program included sessions on Thai culture, cuisine, arts and crafts, plus visits to famous tourist sites in Thailand.

The Museum of Contemporary Art and Design featured Re-Enactments Exhibition from September to December 2017.
Re-enactments, an exhibition that takes up the issue of performance, whether this be constructed, instruction-based, document- orientated or gestural, within the parameters of a traditional exhibition format. It seeks to expand our experience of this medium, its possibilities, and its challenges, while at the same time engaging the forms by which concept, performance, documentation and the exhibition co- exist within an institution. Benilde, with its partner, Globe Telecom, signed a Memorandum of Agreement last June 7, 2018 at the Vatel Restaurant, AKIC Building. This partnership enables the launch of the Globe Research Grant on Digital Learning. This grant aims to contribute to the completion of two (2) Academic Researches of Four Hundred Thousand Pesos (Php400,000.00) each, and Management Cost equivalent to Two Hundred Thousand (Php200,000.00) of the Annual Research Grant for three (3) years.

Partnership with Mowelfund

The College partnered with Movie Workers Welfare Foundation (Mowelfund) last July 24, 2018 at Vatel Restaurant, Hotel Benilde.
The partnership aims to provide Film workshops among Benilde students; Cinematography, Film Directing, Production Design, Scriptwriting, and other specialized and technical fields of filmmaking.

Unity Forum

The Center for Social Action (CSA) conducted the Unity Forum with partner NGO, Kaibigan Foundation, at the ARG Theater, Taft Campus last July 30, 2018. The forum tackled the concern on the arbitrary arrest of children and the mandatory drug testing of students - Grade IV and Up.

Kapitbahay Barangay’s Orientation

The Students Grants Office (SGO) gave an orientation to the newly-elected Barangay Chairpersons/Kagawads on the Kapitbahay Grant last July 31, 2018 at Taft Campus.
The Kapitbahay Grant (KBG) is given to applicants who have resided at least 5 years in partner barangays. Partner barangays refer to those barangays that have existing MOA with the College through the Center for Social Action (CSA).

Hackatren

The Light Rail Manila Corporation engaged Benilde HiFi to co-present the 1st Hackatren, a hackathon to improve customer experience of LRT-1 passengers. The hub provided participants with tools based on Design Thinking and Human-Centered Design to help them understand the riding public’s experience and needs better. We also provided mentorship throughout the 24-hour hack period.

Benilde 30th Celebration (1Benex)

The College celebrated its 30th Founding Anniversary last August 15, 2018. The celebration had different activities to foster community spirit and to promote a deeper understanding of the Benildean Expressions of the Lasallian Core Values.

August 16 to 17, 2018

1st Discipline Congress

Benilde hosted the first Discipline Congress last August 16-17, 2018 at Halles De Rheims, AKIC Building. The congress aims to gather representatives from different La Salle Schools with the mission to promote Restorative Campus Discipline and to share best practices on student discipline.

Engage 2018

The Student Publications Office organized Engage 2018 : Capturing Memories” last August 30, 2018 at the SDA Building. This is a one-day series of workshops organized and facilitated by student-journalists from the Benildean Yearbook Office (BYO) for 20 public junior and senior high school students from Villamor High School in Pasay City.
