The School of Deaf Education and Applied Studies (SDEAS) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with CAST Straightarrow. The partnership aims enrich the learning of Deaf Benildean students in the creative and marketing disciplines with the view of finding suitable internship for the Deaf students and employment when they graduate.
The School of Deaf Education and Applied Studies participated in the Rotary Club Annual District Sportsfest - "Fostering Camaraderie and Unity Through Great Sports" last February 4, 2018 at the University of Makati. The SDEAS Representatives were Overall Champions.
SDEAS Graduates participated in a 7-day workshop on Deaf Community Tour Guiding conducted by the Department of Tourism Office of Industry and Manpower Development. The training was conducted last March 12-20, at the Saint Brother Jaime Hilario Institute Training Room, School of Design and Arts Building. The training produced 13 Deaf tour guides, who are now being commissioned to work for the National Museum and for various tour operators and travel agencies.
School of Deaf Education and Applied Studies (SDEAS) Students participated in The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award for Young People Program- Adventurous Journey, a Deaf Awareness and Filipino Sign Language Workshop. This was held last April 22-26, 2018 at the Vocational Rehabilitation Center (AVRC I - DSWD), Bonuan, Binloc, Dagupan City.
The Center for Social Action (CSA) and School of Deaf Education and Applied Studies (SDEAS) conducted the Summer of Service in Davao Oriental last April 14 to May 27, 2018. The Summer of Service aims to provide venue for service- oriented activities during summer for the benefit of both the community or partner institution and SOS Volunteers.

This event aims to promote employability and generate business opportunities for persons with disabilities through booth-exhibits featuring government services, training institutions, employers, and disability organizations; seminars and workshops on employment, business skills and PWD-employers fora; photo exhibit; plenary; and consultation sessions.

Deaf and Hearing Camp is an annual project that aims to conduct specific trainings and seminars (personal safety, Deaf awareness, personal - scale income generating projects) and various interactive activities that will benefit the target population.

Jose Manuel Garcia bagged 2nd place in the Design competition during The Philippine Iconic Tower Design Competition hosted by UAP Singapore last September 2017. The School of Design and Arts - Theater Arts Program organized an Urban Exploration Master class/Workshop aimed at students and faculty of the Performing Arts, Theatre Design and Architecture, who are interested in research and creative potentials of space, working collaboratively to develop spatial expression and introducing spatial design, narrative embodiment and delayering for creative application in the real site based events. The workshop was done last January 22, 27, 2018 in SDA Campus and around P. Ocampo Street.

Benilde Architecture program organized the Anthology Architecture and Design Festival 2018, a three-day celebration of architecture and design held last February 9 - February 11, 2018 at Fort Santiago, in the historic walled city of Intramuros, Manila, Philippines. This year's festival theme is "Social Architecture".
Amy, written and directed by De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde Digital Filmmaking student John Craig “Jaig” de Guzman, tied for the Best Narrative Film award with Mission Accomplished by Eidref Kristin Faith Magpayo of Centro Escolar University- Malolos at the first ASEANnale Film and Multimedia Competition awarding ceremonies held last March 2.
De Guzman’s entry also won Best Short Film and Best Editing at the Largabista Film Festival awards night held last March 3 onboard the Greenpeace ship Rainbow Warrior, which is docked at the Tacloban city port as part of its climate justice ship tour in Southeast Asia.
A Capstone project from a Digital Filmmaking Student won the Best Students’ Short Film at the Guild of Educators, Mentors, and Students (GEMS) Hiyas ng Sining awards night.

Production Design Students produced CTRL+: A production Design Exhibit, last April 16-May 4, 2018 at the 6th Floor Hallway, SDA Building.
CTRL+ aims to showcase not only the various stages and processes involved in Production Design, but to highlight each category as an art form and skill set on its own. This exhibit also aims to feature Scene Design as a collaborative process between Designers, Model makers, Craftsmen etc. and how an idea evolves from paper to actual execution.

Industrial Design Graduates produced EDGE: An Industrial Design Thesis Exhibit last August 2-3, 2018 at the Design Center of the Philippines, Pasay City. The event also presented 13 Best Thesis nominees, panelled by Senior Industry Fellow Kenneth Cobonpue, BS-ID Chairperson Mary Florence Lei Nobleza, DTI Executive Director Rhea Matute, and faculty Leo Oaper. Joaquin Talan and Kirsten Ariana Herce were recognized as runner-ups, and Paulo Tyler Buenaventura was awarded the Best Thesis Award.

“Koleksyong Pamalo”, a movie project for a Cinematography class under the Digital Filmmaking (DFilm) Program bagged the Special Jury Prize at the Sine Kabataan short film competition. DFilm Student, Jocelyn “Len” Frago received the award for Koleksyong Pamalo during the 2018 Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino (PPP) Gabi ng Pasasalamat held last August 19 at Whitespace, Don Chino Roces Ave. Ext., Makati City.
The Architecture program participated in the Venice Architecture Biennale 2018 last August 24, 2018 at Arsenale, Venice, Italy. The event was hosted by curator Ar. Edson Cabalfin Ph.D. It was attended by Biennale guests and invited members of the Filipino community in Italy.
The Production Design program organized On Maiden Lane Exhibit last August 10 to September 14, 2018 at the 6/F, SDA building. The exhibit’s theme was Re-imagining Shakespeare. It aims re-invent and innovate his classics and honor the Globe’s motto “totus mundus agit histrionem” meaning ""because all the world is a playground""from Petronius.
The second batch of seventeen students from Toyama, Morioka and Kawahara Colleges in Japan are taking their hospitality certificate courses in SHRIM this 1st semester SY 17-18. Here from September 1 - December 15, 2017, they have undergoing lecture and laboratory classes in three levels of English, Information Systems, Front Office Operations, Bar Management and Food and Beverage Service Systems.
School of Hotel, Restaurant and Institution Management (SHRIM) forged a new international exchange partnership with Odyssey International Exchange (a program sponsor for J1 programs in the US). This partnership aims to promote reciprocal exchange programs with other countries, meaning American citizens will have the chance to experience a cultural exchange in other countries such as the Philippines.
The Memorandum of Agreement was signed last September 12, 2017 at the Omni Interlocken Resort in Denver, Colorado.
The DLS-CSB School of Hotel, Restaurant and Institution Management sent a 12- person delegation to Rochester Institute of Technology–National Technical Institute for the Deaf (RIT-NTID) in Rochester, New York last October 14-24, 2017. The primary purpose of the benchmarking trip was to identify, understand and adapt outstanding practices. The benchmarking activity was meant to boost the capabilities of SHRIM to successfully attain the goals of the SHRIM Project ahEAD (Education Access for the Deaf) to be in full effect by the school year 2018-2019.
In the same trip, an International Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Benilde and RIT-NTID strengthening and expanding the collaboration between both institutions on October 16, 2017.
The Memorandum of Understanding between DLS-CSB and the Emirates Academy of Hospitality Management (EAHM) was renewed last December 3, 2017 at the EAHM in Dubai.
SHRIM joined the Young Chef’s Olympiad 2018 Competition last January 28 held in the different regions of India.
Culinary Arts student, Mr. Brylle Li competed with 49 students from all over the world. He ranked 5th in the Ambassadorship round and 15th in the Vegetarian round. He was accompanied by Chef Ted Fung Chua as his coach.
Benilde opened its doors to the Senior High School (SHS) students of De La Salle Araneta Universty (DLSAU). The first batch started last February 19 - March 2, 2018 and the second batch was from March 5-16, 2018. They were allowed to undergo immersion in the various hatcheries of SHRIM from Monday to Friday only from 08:00H - 16:00H.
With 49 students total, 18 of were assigned at the Vatel Restaurant Manila, 25 at Hotel Benilde Maison de La Salle, and 6 at Andrew Cafe.
The 51st Young Hoteliers’ Exposition Week exhibited how Daring and Dauntless the students from the School of Hotel, Restaurant, and Institution Management were as it went ODYSSEY. The Exposition was held last 7-9 March 2018 from Wednesday to Friday at the Angelo King International Center Campus.
SHRIM's resident Tourism organization, Travelers in Progress (TRIP), organized the 34th Tourism Exposed with the theme, "Heritage Tourism: Focus on the Indigenous Cultures of Mindanao"; held last March 12, 2018 at Halle de Aquitaine of Hotel Benilde.
Forty-six students took part in the wine appreciation tour in Bordeaux, France last March 13-22, 2018. In partnership with Vatel Bordeaux, the students attended a two-day seminar plus a visit to the wine museum and St. Emilion vineyard.
Eurofest 2017, held last April 5, at Halle de Aquitaine, served as a venue for BS-IHM students enrolled in European Tourism and European Culture to exhibit their skills and creativity in destination marketing. This term's theme, "Traveler Tribes: Trailblazing the Path", featured emerging European destinations: Croatia, Hungary, Portugal, Iceland, Finland, etc. to name a few, matched with 6 different traveler "tribes".

SHRIM Student, Briana Buencamino won 3rd Place over-all in the Whisky Live, the biggest international whisky event in the world lastt October 20-21, 2017 at Shangri-La, Fort, on its 2nd year in Manila. "Whisky Meets Academia" was also held last October 2, 2017 organized by DLS-CSB SHRIM’s World-class Hoteliers in Progress (WHIP) in cooperation with the organizers of Whisky Live Manila.
School Directors of more than 40 Vatel gathered at the 12th Vatel International Convention hosted by Vatel Tunis last May 9-12, 2018. Benilde / Vatel Manila was represented by Mr. Robert L. Tang (Chancellor), Mr. Geronio G. Ulayao (Vice Chancellor for Academics), Ms. Lettie O. Delarmente (representing the Office of the President), and Mr. Angelo Marco U. Lacson (Dean, SHRIM).
It was also during the convention that the 10th CIRVATH International Journal of Tourism was distributed. Three (3) researches from SHRIM were published in the said journal.
Conrad Hotel and the School of Hotel, Restaurant and Institution Management (SHRIM) signed an agreement covering internship opportunities for students of the school last June 8, 2018.
The International Trainee Network (ITN) agreed to give two (2) scholarship slots for Benildeans in AY 2018-2019. The scholarship will cover all the services of our all-inclusive program such as (1) research on a host company, (2) Placement for a paid internship program in the US, (3) DS-2019 Immigration form, and (4) Medical Insurance for the duration of their stay.
The 52nd Young Hoteliers’ Exposition Week in collaboration with the 12th Manila Food and Beverages Exposition was held last 13-17 June 2018 from Wednesday to Sunday at the World Trade Center Tent.
The BS-IHM students received the exclusive Vatel Silver V pin, during the Benilde Commencement Exercises last June 30, 2018. This is the first time that the BS-IHM graduates were given this recognition during the graduation ceremony.
SHRIM staged Tourism Exposed with the theme, "Cross Cultural Travel: Adventures Across Asia" last July 2, 2018 at Halle D'Aquitaine of Hotel Benilde.
Blueprint, the annual facilities design competition of the IHM students, was held last July 13, 2018 at Hotel Benilde. IHM and HM students taking up the Facilities Design and Building Engineering System course were the participants of the exhibit and competition.
Thirty International Hospitality Management (IHM) students participated in the Vatel Nimes Summer Exchange Program last July 16 to August 25, 2018. The six-week internship exposed the students in the various restaurant, hotel and spa operations of Vatel Nimes in France.
Ten (10) IHM students participated in the very first Bangkok Summer Course Scholarship last July 31 to August 11, 2018. The program was fully funded by Vatel Bangkok and Silpakorn University International College. The two-week cultural exchange program included sessions on Thai culture, cuisine, arts and crafts, plus visits to famous tourist sites in Thailand.
The 8th LATHE Convention was held last August 9-18, 2018 at the AKIC Campus. The guests speakers were Congresswoman Geraldine Roman (Gender Sensitivty/SOGI), Atty. Oscar Palabyab (Prospects of PH Tourism Industry towards Resiliency), Asec. Robby Alabado (Philippine Tourism Highlights) and Mr. Chinkee Tan (Financial Wellness).
SHRIM, through the request of Grameen Australia Philippines and our Center for Social Action, has been collaborating with Pasay City North High School (PCNHS) since January 2017 through technical consultancy for their Café that will be run by Senior High School students and parents. The project has finally reached its fruition thru the launching of the PCNHS Café Lab this August 17, 2018.
CIRC launched the Benilde Research Anthology Volume 1 (BRAVo1) last October 4, 2017 during the Townhall Assembly. BRAVo1 is a compilation of selected Benildean faculty research.

Information Systems welcomed the representatives from the Pumalang University, Mitra Netra Foundation and Pertuni, Indonesia, for their Benchmarking Activity in cooperation with Resources for the Blind, Inc. and Center for Inclusive Education. The representatives are set to the College’s visually impaired student, Sohankumar Motwani and the SMIT instructor Atty. Jude La Torre to their National Convention on Blind Awareness and Education in Jakarta, Indonesia in November.
Mark Yu, a BSIS student won 2nd runner-up in the Unionbank Hackathon 2017 last December 2-3, 2017 at the International Trade Center with his app “paluwagan”.

The College organized the Walk Through-Training for the Colombo-Drug advisory Programme in partnership with Colombo Plan, Sri Lanka last March 5-15, 2018 at Hotel Benilde. The Training was a preview of the Universal Treatment Curriculum (UTC) or Substance Use Disorders to be offered under SPaCE, which is first in the Country.

The Center for Campus Art of the De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde presents ‘Valera and the Modern: An Exhibit on the Life and Work of National Artist for Fashion Design, Ramon Valera’. Original garments designed by Valera for his illustrious roster of clients will be exhibited. The show will share his work and demonstrate his innovations in fashion to a younger audience. ‘Valera and the Modern’ is in partnership with the Tantoco-Rustia Foundation.
The Museum of Contemporary Art and Design featured Re-Enactments Exhibition from September to December 2017.
Re-enactments, an exhibition that takes up the issue of performance, whether this be constructed, instruction-based, document- orientated or gestural, within the parameters of a traditional exhibition format. It seeks to expand our experience of this medium, its possibilities, and its challenges, while at the same time engaging the forms by which concept, performance, documentation and the exhibition co- exist within an institution. The show included works of Francis Alÿs, Yason Banal, Erick Beltrán, Dora García, Liz Magic Laser, Michelle Lopez, Gabriella Mangano, and Silvana Mangano.

The exhibit ‘By Hand: Rediscovering the Art of Printmaking’ aims to introduce the art of printmaking to the students, faculty and community of the De La Salle- College of Saint Benilde. The exhibit runs until April 14, 2018.

This half-day event was held in celebration of the World Down Syndrome Day which is celebrated every 21st day of March. Attended by Benildean students and associates, guest speakers from the different advocacy groups on Down Syndrome shared their knowledge during the event.

Green FunRacers 3.0 was held last May 27, 2018 at Alviera, Porac, Pampanga. This is the third run of the bike and hike fundraising event, this time in partnership with Alviera and Peace Camp Brgy. Sapang Uwak, Porac, Pampanga. The project aims to: (a) support the development and construction of our Dormitory and Sports Complex which will house more than 300 student-athlete and scholars, and (b) provide an avenue for the Benildean Associates and Friends, Alumni, Friends from other La Salle schools to come together, appreciate and celebrate the "Green" in each one of us.
Seven (7) American Students from different universities in US had their immersion in Manila from May 28-July 21, 2018 and took the 2 months Global Education Initiative (GEI) at Benilde in collaboration with Creative Learning, US. The GEI is an avenue for the students to be immersed in the partner communities of Benilde.
Benilde, with its partner, Globe Telecom, signed a Memorandum of Agreement last June 7, 2018 at the Vatel Restaurant, AKIC Building. This partnership enables the launch of the Globe Research Grant on Digital Learning. This grant aims to contribute to the completion of two (2) Academic Researches of Four Hundred Thousand Pesos (Php400,000.00) each, and Management Cost equivalent to Two Hundred Thousand (Php200,000.00) of the Annual Research Grant for three (3) years.
The Benildean Press Corps (BPC), the College’s official student-journalists' organization, held its first-ever Campus Journalism Conference on June 8, 2018, at the School of Design and Arts Theater. More than 40 campus journalists from five different high schools in Makati City participated in a series of talks and workshops on press freedom, newsroom operations, writing, photojournalism, layout, and art.
The Center for Campus Art launched the second part of the Stations of the Nations Project, a series of installation of students that is guided by Manny Montelibano. The installations were opened last June 13 in various areas in the SDA Building.
The Department of Student Life (DSL) hosted the Scholars’ Fair last June 21-23, 2018 with the title: INFUSE 2018. The activity aims to bring together all Benildeans Scholars through a series of seminars, sports and entertainment.
The Center for Instruction, Research and Curriculum conducted the Inclusion Module Series with the faculty members of the School of Management and Information Technology (SMIT) and the School of Design and Arts (SDA). The one for SMIT was conducted last June 27-29 at the BRCC and the module for the SDA Team was done last July 18-20 at the BRCC.
The Museum of Contemporary Art and Design (MCAD) acquired the first artwork for The Benilde Collection last June 2018. MCAD purchased the Michael Lin’s “Pedicab” with a donation of “Untitled Gathering Mania” (stools).
The Center for Instruction, Research and Curriculum (CIRC) launched the 2nd phase of the Hybridge Learning Course last July 3-21, 2018 at the Taft Campus. The HyBridge program enables classes to be conducted online alongside the classrooms. Nine faculty members were accredited for AY 2017-2018.
Napoleon ‘Billy’ Abueva, National Artist for sculpture gifted the College with a sculpture, a functional piece which he called ‘A Lover’s Duyan. The sculpture was placed in the SDA Lobby and was inaugurated last July 4, 2018 with Abueva’s family.
The Hub of Innovation For Inclusion (HiFi) and Smarter Good, Inc. presented In_Pact XChange a Social Enterprise: A Theory of Change, a FREE three- hour workshop that breaks down the recipe for effective social change. This was last July 7, 2018 at the Loop, 12/F, School of Design and Arts Building.
Benildean Associates presented a paper on the Colonial and Post-colonial American influence on Deaf Education in the Philippines, in the Deaf History International 2018 Conference last July 14-22, 2018 at Sydney, Australia. The group also learned and explored research in Deaf history.
Benilde Antipolo submitted the final curricula for the different programs such as Teacher Education, Psychology, Communication Arts, Tourism Management, Hospitality Management, Accountancy, Marketing Management last June 2018 for the AY 2018-2019. The curriculum team was also participated in the Learner-centered workshop last July 16-17, 2018.

The Center for Social Action (CSA) conducted the Unity Forum with partner NGO, Kaibigan Foundation, at the ARG Theater, Taft Campus last July 30, 2018. The forum tackled the concern on the arbitrary arrest of children and the mandatory drug testing of students - Grade IV and Up.
The Students Grants Office (SGO) gave an orientation to the newly-elected Barangay Chairpersons/Kagawads on the Kapitbahay Grant last July 31, 2018 at Taft Campus.
The Kapitbahay Grant (KBG) is given to applicants who have resided at least 5 years in partner barangays. Partner barangays refer to those barangays that have existing MOA with the College through the Center for Social Action (CSA).
The Light Rail Manila Corporation engaged Benilde HiFi to co-present the 1st Hackatren, a hackathon to improve customer experience of LRT-1 passengers. The hub provided participants with tools based on Design Thinking and Human-Centered Design to help them understand the riding public’s experience and needs better. We also provided mentorship throughout the 24-hour hack period.
The College celebrated its 30th Founding Anniversary last August 15, 2018. The celebration had different activities to foster community spirit and to promote a deeper understanding of the Benildean Expressions of the Lasallian Core Values.
Benilde hosted the first Discipline Congress last August 16-17, 2018 at Halles De Rheims, AKIC Building. The congress aims to gather representatives from different La Salle Schools with the mission to promote Restorative Campus Discipline and to share best practices on student discipline.
The Student Publications Office organized Engage 2018 : Capturing Memories” last August 30, 2018 at the SDA Building. This is a one-day series of workshops organized and facilitated by student-journalists from the Benildean Yearbook Office (BYO) for 20 public junior and senior high school students from Villamor High School in Pasay City.
